Network for Information, Response And Preparedness Activities on Disaster (NIRAPAD), a network, works to reduce disaster risk in Bangladesh through the diminution of disaster-related information and knowledge gap and strengthening DRM abilities of the development organizations and communities. As a member of the Humanitarian Coordination Task Team (HCTT), Sphere Community Bangladesh (SCB), and CHS Alliance, it is committed to promoting all disaster-related quality and accountability and supporting a wide range of stakeholders in strengthening capacity for humanitarian assistance, disaster risk reduction, and climate change adaptation. In addition, as a technical co-lead of the Localisation Technical Working Group (LTWG), NIRAPAD facilitates humanitarian actors to translate global localisation commitments into action in Bangladesh.

Position: Information Management Officer (IMO)

Job Responsibilities

  1. Maintain an information management strategy, in consultation with NIRAPAD concerned, including internal information flow;
  2. Provide technical support in convening regular meetings, and drafting and distributing the agenda Information Management Officer.
  3. Identify, obtain, compile, analyze, and report various primary and secondary data from required sources and organize the structural record keeping and archival.
  4. Playing a lead role in the design, development, management, and improvement of data management systems including database and spreadsheets, along with related processes for data collection, cleaning, and verification;
  5. Create operational data management systems to enable effective analysis and monitoring including data quality control protocols and standards for validation and sharing of data;
  6. Provide information management support to joint needs assessments as required;
  7. Support in making methodological decisions about how to conduct needs assessments and understand/interpret the results of assessments;
  8. Produce visual information such as tables, graphs, and other infographics in a suitable format for reporting and illustration purposes;
  9. Provide input to draft submissions, information notes, briefings, and reports;
  10. Support the promotion of data and information sharing within the humanitarian community;
  11. Maintain data and information-sharing relationships within the humanitarian community (e.g. UN, Red Cross/Crescent, and NGOs) and with relevant governmental bodies.
  12. Perform any other duties as and when necessary, as directed by the Head of Organization/Supervisor. 

Educational Requirement

  • Graduate and/or Masters level education in Disaster Management, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, and other related subject.

Required Qualifications and Competencies

  • Proficiency in MS Office, Tableau, Power BI, Arc GIS, Kobo toolbox, and SPSS.
  • Good analytical skills and good drafting capabilities.
  • Ability to work in a team with a high degree of integrity and discretion.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, facilitation, and mobilization skills.
  • Advanced internet browsing and computer skills.
  • Excellent communication skill in both Bangla and English.

Experience

  • 3-4 years in similar role

  • 05 Months with high possibility of extension

Job Responsibilities

  1. Assist in conducting research including data collection, analysis and report writing.
  2. Assist in providing technical support to members as well as other development organizations for developing DRM policy, strategy, training module and handbook.
  3. Assist in facilitating training events and conducting workshops.
  4. Support in promoting global initiatives of disaster management e.g. Accountability, CHS, Sphere Minimum Standards.
  5. Contribute to research proposal development.
  6. Contribute to update the website of the organization.
  7. Visit member organizations to see their disaster related activities.
  8. Assist in strengthening the networking in Bangladesh and abroad.
  9. Prepare and disseminate daily/ monthly report on hazards and disasters in Bangladesh.
  10. Liaise with member organizations, Government, UN organizations and other organizations in the field of disaster management.
  11. Perform other duties as and when necessary, as directed by the Head of Organization/Supervisor.

  • Data collection from GoB websites, national dailies and other sources;
  • Data entry in various platforms e.g. Kobo collect, Excel etc.;
  • Prepare monthly disaster situation report;
  • Assist in communication with project team members and other stakeholders as and when required;
  • Sometimes need to go to the field for data collection
  • Provide any other tasks assigned by the organization

Required Qualifications and Competencies

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint
  • Documentation and analytical skills
  • Ability to work in a team with a high degree of integrity and discretion.
  • Excellent communication skills in both Bangla and English.
  • Sound knowledge in disaster management

Educational Requirement

Bachelor/Master’s degree in Disaster Management, Meteorology, Geography, Environmental Science/Management, Development Studies or a relevant field.
